Antioxidant present: Tocopherols, which are a collection ofthe different varieties of vitamin E and have been linked to a wide variety ofhealth benefits, including a decreased risk of both prostate and breastcancer.

The research says: Thanks to their antioxidant content,pecans can protect against the oxidation of fats in the blood, something thatis similar to the rusting process on a car and contributes to the risk of heartdisease. The pecan is ranked 14th on the USDA’s top 20 foods list, coming injust below the Granny Smith apple.

Tip: A study showed that after four weeks, eating a handfulof pecans daily reduced lipid, or fat, oxidation by more than 7 per cent.
